PageBuildr - Now Safari Compatible

PageBuildr is now fully compatible with the Safari web browser for both Mac and PC.

We've updated our formatting box to a newer version which now works across all major browsers. This means you can add and edit content to your site, or comment on another site, using the formatting box rather than having to type up HTML code manually.

We've also fixed a bug in the File Manager that prevented an image preview from showing on mouse over in Safari. This should work correctly now.

As a Safari user myself, this update was a long time coming. I hope a couple people (roughly 4% of our visitors) find this useful.

We welcome any feedback or questions in the comments below.

Designing Your Site Just Got a Lot Easier!

We're pleased to announce two great new PageBuildr features, both months in the making.

Appearance Themes - You can now choose a professionally-designed theme for your website. Each theme will transform the look of your site with a simple click of the mouse. You can even grab the official PageBuildr template if you like.

Worried about having the same look as everyone else? Don't be. You can apply a theme to your site, and use the Appearance tools to customize the look however you like. Now it's easy for anyone to have a professional-looking site.

Template Layouts - Have you ever wanted to change the layout of your site? Maybe move the menu to the right side, or even horizontally on top? Now you can! Use our layout tools to position and resize the elements of your PageBuildr site to make it look exactly how you like.

Live Preview - You can still manually adjust the settings of your website appearance as you could before, but now you'll see what your changes will look like as you make them. Watch your background color change as you drag your mouse over a beautiful color gradient. See the text in your header update WHILE YOU TYPE IT. We call it Live Preview, and you're going to love it.

We've also added a bunch of new options to the Appearance area - add background images to your buttons and change the font, even set the transparency levels of your backgrounds.

Login to your Build area and check it out.

We'd love your Feedback

Please take a moment to fill out our Anonymous Feedback Survey, so we can continue to improve PageBuildr, or leave a message in our Feedback Forum.

New Website Stats System

We've just launched a new website stats system for your PageBuildr website. This new system is 100% accurate, much more so than the system we'd been using previously.

In the future, we'll be able to provide very detailed stats on your visits and page views for your site - where they came from, how many visits/views you had per day/week/month, etc.

Unfortunately, we had to reset the existing statistics for your site in order to install the new system. These stats were very inflated versus reality and not an accurate representation of your site's traffic. We feel that "wiping the slate clean" will be worth it in the long run, and apologize for any annoyances that occur due to this change.

If you have any questions or concerns, please leave them in the comments below. Thanks.

Share your Stuff

We've just added another cool feature to PageBuildr - Music and Slideshow sharing!

Now you can take your Slideshow of your favorite photos and place it on another website. Below your Slideshow, you'll see a box labeled "Get HTML to Embed Slideshow" containing some code. Just click in this box, and click "Edit > Copy" in your browser.

Then, take this code to MySpace, Blogger, wherever you want, and paste the code. Your Slideshow will now display on your site.

If you're a musician with music on PageBuildr, you can do the same thing with your music player. Get your music out there for everyone to hear.

Give it a shot, it's easy!

Photo Gallery Upgrades

We just completed a major overhaul of the Photo Gallery page type. Some of the new features include:

SlideShows - a new, flash based slide show is automatically created when you create a gallery. It pops up in a screen overlay and displays animated transitions as it moves through your photos.

PhotoFeeds - now your website visitors can subscribe to your photo gallery and stay up to date as you add more photos to your gallery. Clicking on the photos bring people to your comments on that photo.

PhotoFeeds can also be used with software that accepts subscribable feeds for later viewing offline, such as iPhoto.

Zoom - when you're viewing the large version of your photo in your gallery, it's often sized down to fit the page. If you click the photo the larger version will display in a screen overlay.

We hope you enjoy the new features! Leave your comments in the Feedback forum.

Profile Browsing

Hot on the heels of the Profile expansion comes Profile browsing!

Now, all the information entered in every profile on PageBuildr is searchable. If you the band Coldplay in your Music area, simply click "Coldplay" and find other PageBuildrs with similar tastes.

Plus, you can filter results based on your city, state or zip. Want to find other Coldplay fans in your city? Click Coldplay in your profile, then click "City" on the results page to filter out PageBuildrs from other cities.

So, go on then, fill out your profile and start browing.

Expanded Profile Options

One of the many features of PageBuildr is social networking - building an online community by making new friends, and reconnecting with old ones. In order to make PageBuildr's networking features both more fun and more useful, we've just relaunched the "Profile" area of PageBuildr.

Now you can specify much more information about yourself, including:

Your gender, birth date and hometown

Your relationship status, and what sort of new relationships you're interested in

Different forms of contact information, so people can get a hold of you

Your activities, interests and favorites

Post a photo of yourself using our new, easier to use wizard

And your real name is still not displayed anywhere on PageBuildr, so you can do all of this anonymously - unless you choose to post your name yourself.

Any information you enter for your profile will automatically be added to your Profile page for others to view. There's also an area for "Recent Updates", so visitors can see what changes you've made recently and check 'em out.

You asked for it, and you got it - Multiple File Uploads!

Do you have some photos you've been meaning to add to a gallery, but haven't because you're dreading how long it will take to upload each one individually?

After some great feedback from our annonymous survey, we've recently added multiple file uploads to the File Manager. Now you can upload up to 5 files at the same time, cutting your build time down significantly. Click here to check it out.

We want to make PageBuildr as easy to use as possible. If you have any suggestions for improvements, please take a moment to post them to our Suggestions forum.

We've officially arrived!

Mashable, the who's who of Social Networking and User Submitted Content sites, has a small write up about PageBuildr.

"Pagebuildr claims to be a social networking service that lets you build your own website. It seems to have launched earlier in the year, although we’d never heard of it until it was mentioned at the Social Networking Awards. It’s a little bit like Webjam, but less convincing. Minus ten points for having a Flickr-like name."

Maybe not the most flattering description, but we'll take it!

If you run across any press for PageBuildr on the web, please forward the link to us.

New Page Type - Related Pages

We've added a new page type to PageBuildr - one so simple and useful I can't believe we didn't think of it earlier.

It's called Related Pages. When you choose this page type, it will simply list the title and link to any subpages that exist.

Let's say I want to add 3 photo galleries from different vacations I've been on. I'll make a Related Page named "Vacation Photos", and the content of that page will say "Click on the links below to view my vacation photo galleries!".

Then, as I create my photo galleries, I'll use "Vacation Photos" as the parent page. When someone clicks on the page "Vacation Photos", they'll be able to click the links to view all the different photo galleries. The links will be updated as I add and remove sub pages automatically.

Give it a shot, and let us know what you think in the Feedback Forum.
PageBuildr.com - New Site Design

We've launched a new site design for PageBuildr! After tiring of the old "wow is this boring" color scheme, the new design has a bit more color and pizazz.

The new homepage introduces some icons for the different page types available on PageBuildr. We thought this would be more fun than a bunch of text. Future plans include incorporating this PageBuildr Announcements blog, some browsing options, and "featured websites" to highlight some of our better PageBuildrs.

Like the rest of PageBuildr, it's a work in progress, but feel free to weigh in and let us know what you think of it so far...

PageBuildr Messages

We've just launched PageBuildr Messages!

PageBuildr Messages allows you to send and receive messages from other PageBuildr members through the website.

When you receive a new message, you'll get an email letting you know, with a link to your Messages page.

Future feature additions to this include disabling email notification, and receiving messages when you get a friend request, or someone comments on your site.

Go to your Build area and click the Messages button to try it out! Please leave any feedback in the comments below.

Build Area Updates

Lots of changes to the Build area over the weekend:

Manage Friends - You can now view a list of all of your friends, and, if you like, delete existing friends you no longer want on your list. Manage Friends and Approve Friends are now submenu buttons off of the "Friends" button in Build.

Manage Forum - Added the ability to delete topics in your forums. While you can edit your own posts, you are unable to edit those posts from other PageBuildr users - but you can remove them if you like.

Manage Comments - You can now view and delete comments for all of your pages and content. Look for the graphic in the Pages area of Build to access this feature.

New Content

Updated 8-4-06:

We've just added a new feature to PageBuildr - new content notification.

When you come back to PageBuildr and login, you'll notice a icon next to the comments and topics links within pages. This indicates that the topic or comments have been modified since your last visit.

We've also added notification to the menu buttons. Instead of the red dot, which makes the page a bit busy, we've made the text of the button bold when there is new content on that page.

For example, the text should presently be bold on the "PageBuildr Announcements" button to the left, if you are logged in.

The purpose of this is to let you know what content is new since your last visit. We tried to keep it small and subtle so it doesn't add clutter to the sites, but obvious enough that you'll know what's new.

Please leave any feedback about this feature in the comments below - we'd like to know what you think.

RSS Feeds Added

We've added RSS Feeds to the Blog page type. These are automatically generated by PageBuildr when you add, edit and delete content from your Blogs.

What's RSS you ask?

RSS, or Really Simple Syndication, is a new way for websites to distribute news, events, or other current information. A visitor to a website that has an RSS feed can choose to "subscribe" to the feed. Then their RSS reader program will automatically get any new news releases or other information from that website.

Auto Login

We've added an "Auto Login" feature to the login process for PageBuildr. To use it, simple leave the check box labeled "login automatically on future visits" checked next time you login.

This will, as you can imagine, log you in automatically next time you visit PageBuildr.

Not only will this save you the step of having to login every time you visit, it wlll also make the previously mentioned "New Content" feature more useful, as you'll know right away what content on PageBuildr has been modified or added since your last visit.
My MP3s Page Type Added

We've just launched a beta version of the My MP3s page type.

This will allow you to post MP3s of the music you've created and share it with the world. Listeners can tune in using the PageBuildr MP3 Player, which streams the audio to the listener's browser. Your cover art even displays while the track is playing.

This page type is still a beta version, so if you run into any problems please post them to the "Feedback" forum.
